May 3, 2010Remade
April 22, 2010So this last weekend was the Remade retreat @ Camp Lebanon. For those of you who went on the trip you know how much fun it was! Between the nacho bar and the zipline, to the crazy worship and discovering who God’s created us to be; it was a blast!!!
However, I know not everybody was able to be at the retreat, so I thought I’d share something about it. Plus it gives those who were at the retreat a chance to re-live the event. To set this up a little, on the retreat we watched a couple of short movies that lead up to a grand finale! I really don’t want to ruin the surprise, so just take a look and see what happens.
This is the first of the trilogy. So come back and check out how the story ends!
Happy Easter
April 2, 2010Hey Ground Zero – Just wanted to wish everyone a very Happy Easter as we celebrate the death and resurrection of Jesus. (and hopefully you’ll get some chocolate too!) If you can, be sure to make it out to one of the Easter services that Eagle Brook is having. Service times are posted on the Eagle Brook website (www.eaglebrookchurch.com). We’ll look forward to seeing you there.
Also don’t forget to sign up to join us on the RE-Made Retreat in a few weeks on April 16-18th, its going to be a great time – you won’t want to miss it.
Have a great Easter everyone!
Peeps!
March 26, 2010I’ve never been the biggest fan of Easter candy -other than orange and green jelly beans. But I’ve recently grown in appreciation for the underrated PEEP! You know, those yellow and pink duck or bunny marshmallow poofs that come covered in sugar. They are actually a simple treat that can be used in so many ways – not just for biting their heads off.
So I did a little research, and found out that they are made with 4 ingredients. They have been mass-produced since 1953 and now come in shapes for every holiday. But the best thing I found was a long standing tradition of using peeps in a diorama (a mini, 3-D model)!
Check out some of these pictures!
So I propose starting our own contest! Here’s the challenge. Use at least one peep (chick or bunny of whatever color) in a model (must be appropriate), snap a pic and send it to us at students@eaglebrookchurch.com. We’ll post a few of the best submissions and choose the winner in the next few weeks. Besides PEEP Pride, we’ll find a nice prize for the winner too!
So grabs some peeps and have some fun!

Twain
March 22, 2010Have you ever had something stuck in your head for a day? Like a theme song from a tv show or a quote from a movie. Or maybe worse you’ve had something that kept coming back in your mind for a full week or more. I guess this wouldn’t be so bad especially if what kept popping in your head was something you enjoyed!
Like for example last week for whatever reason while I was sitting at my desk in the office, I had this random movie quote pop in my head from the movie, Robin hood Men in Tights. The quote goes, “He split Robin’s arrow in twain!” Now that line doesn’t seem that funny or even make much sense, but that’s part of why it’s so funny to me because it’s just goofy.
Every time I thought of the scene in my mind that day, I just chuckled at my desk. Aaron who sits across from me, probably was thinking, “What’s up with Dave today?! He’s acting stranger than normal.” Finally I let him in on what I thought was so funny, by showing him the clip from the movie. So take a look at the clip, then let me know what you think by leaving a comment. Check out the massive spit, when the dude says “twain”. Hilarious!
Oatmeal nose
March 6, 2010Ok – So i had officially gone 27 years and 351 days of life managing to not get oatmeal forcibly blown up my nose, and to be honest I really thought I was going to make it to 28 years. But then, at the meeting now referred to as the POWER HOUR, the guys and I decided that I needed to cover myself in maple syrup and allow Dave Holvig to blow all sorts of things at me using a leaf blower (see below). To be honest, I’m not sure how I allowed myself to be talked into such a thing – it was really quite disgusting – I had to wrap myself in garbage bags and ride 10 minutes to take a shower to get it all off of me. It started with flour, then came the oatmeal – which went directly up my nose – and really hurt. Then came feathers, Redi-whip, and silly string. All in all it was a good time, but something I wouldn’t recommend to my worst enemy. But I was happy to do it for Ground Zero. Have you guys ever done something disgusting?!? What was it?!? Maybe I can convince Dave or Lynfield to give it a try for the next GZ video!
house work at the holvig’s….
February 23, 2010mom’s have a way of making things happen.
my mom came out to visit from new york and before i knew it we all had rakes and shovels in our hands, working on the completely neglected exterior of our house…. minutes later i got antsy -and had an idea…
earlier in the afternoon, my wife rachel dropped a worm down my shirt and i NEVER found it!!! i’m convinced it worked its way into my body somehow and is now running things from the inside.. is that gross?
anyway, i asked my brother kev (gz drummer) if he would mind helping me get rachel back… he was pretty hesitant as you can see in the vid but ultimately he makes it happen.
bombs away!
Confessions and Inventions
February 19, 2010So I have a confession to make: I’m a snoozer!
That’s right: I hate getting up out of bed. I am NOT a morning person. I don’t think it’s natural that you have to set something to wake up – I think I should get up when I wake up – not when something makes a horrible screeching noise – or when a band starts playing the middle of a song at high volume.
I am getting better now that my son Caz is converting me into an early morning person. If he sleeps until 6:45am – it’s a really good day. So now I kind of have a built in alarm clock. But trust me - if I knew of a good way to make a snooze button for him, I certainly would use it.
But snoozing can get me into trouble…..and I’m sure it’s gotten some of you into trouble before too. I was terrible about snoozing before school – and I missed a few buses in my day.
I ran across this invention a few years ago and still think it’s pretty clever. It’s called Clocky- and it’s an alarm clock on wheels- if you don’t get up right away – it actually runs away from you, screaching the whole time!
Find out more at http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Clocky

If you’ve got a good snooze story let me know. Or if you have a favorite invention- I’d love to check it out!
Which Super Bowl Commercial was your favorite?
February 15, 2010Just thinking back to the Super Bowl commercials from a couple weekends ago and wondering which ones you all liked? My favorites were some of the Doritos ones, including this one
It seems like I used to remember them being funnier than they were this year too. What do you guys think? Did they used to be funnier than they are now? Hopefully everyone enjoyed the game and got to go to a sweet party to watch it too! Have a great week and don’t forget to check out the Ash Wednesday Encounter Services this week at all campuses. 7pm @ WBL and 6 & 8 @ SLP.
Guess who’s turning 26?!?
February 3, 2010Tomorrow is Junior High Pastor Dave Schussman’s 26th birthday. I know it seems like that’s really old, but he’s actually the youngest of all of our staff for Junior High Ministry! Usually when people have birthday’s we get the whole student ministry staff together and go out to lunch wherever the birthday person wants to go. We even buy them lunch. It’s a pretty sweet deal to be honest. I’ve chosen to go to Red Robin and Red Lobster, which is strange because I don’t even like the color red. Dave Holvig likes to go to Potbelly’s for sandwiches, and Lynfield usually picks a Mexican restaurant. We thought we’d have a little fun and let you all decide where we are going to lunch – so take a gander at our 3 choices and comment to get your vote in!!!!
A)Fudruckers (burgers and fries)
B)Red Lobster (seafood)
C)Acapulco (Mexican Restaurant)
